Warning: this post is a little bit of tough love. BUT it's also sprinkled with validation and self-acceptance. Please hear me out through the end because it could be a game changer for your wellness journey. I know it was for me!
Your weight is not the fault of your parents, your finances, or your exceptionally busy life. Do genes and social circumstances make it hard? Yes. Does food insecurity and inadequate income make it hard? Yes. Can finding time to exercise and plan meals be tough? Yes.
But not impossible.
(But being overweight is NOT what I want!!)
Are you sure about that? Because at the end of the day: Your Actions = Your Results
As much as we want a life of health and weight loss, we can let the day to day circumstances distract us from our goals. We choose food to soothe our feelings instead of taking responsibility for the ugly thoughts that created them in the first place. We choose to give all our time and energy to our kids, our spouse, our boss, our (whatever it is to you) instead of reserving some time to take care of ourselves too.
As important as those long-term goals are to you, these daily actions don't say you want to get healthy and lose weight. These actions say you don't want to feel negative feelings and you think everyone else's needs should be more important than your own.
OR sometimes it is so much deeper than that and you don't even realize it. You're afraid of failure so you don't give yourself the freedom to REALLY try. You're afraid of what might happen if you actually see results. You want to change but you can't drown out the nasty voice in your head that keeps telling you-you're not strong enough and nothing will ever change because you are just so weak.
Here's my suggestions. I know they worked for me and I think they will for you too.
Be kind. Talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone you love and respect.
Take responsibility. Find a way instead of finding an excuse.
Ask for help. Maybe that's more support from your spouse and your family. Maybe it's setting some professional boundaries with your employer. Maybe it's asking a health coach to help you work through the mental and emotional hurdles that are holding you back.
Please know that I've been there and I know how hard it is. You CAN do this and I'd be so honored to help you navigate this wellness journey. Having some help and support can make all the difference!
